Self-hosted browser automation and hosted cloud-browser infrastructure solve the same problem differently — here's how to tell which one your agent workload actually needs.

A computer-use agent needs to click, type, scroll, and log in like a human would — which means the buying decision is really about whose browser infrastructure and reliability model you’re trusting with that, not just which agent framework has the best demo. The vendors in this category split cleanly between open-source libraries you run yourself, hosted cloud-browser platforms, and a couple of early-stage products with no public pricing at all.

Self-hosted vs. hosted, and why it matters here

Skyvern and Browser Use are both open source and can be self-hosted, which matters if you want full control over where the browser sessions run and what they can access — Skyvern also offers cloud and hybrid deployment on top of that. Browserbase and Anchor Browser are cloud-only: you’re using their headless or “humanized” Chromium infrastructure directly, which is the simpler path if you don’t want to operate browser fleets yourself. Convergence AI’s Proxy and MultiOn are cloud-only as well, but neither publishes pricing, and MultiOn in particular has no current public pricing at all as its parent company has shifted focus elsewhere.

Skyvern and Browserbase both offer SOC 2 and HIPAA, gated to their Enterprise tier for Skyvern and with a BAA available for Browserbase.
